Grocery Budget Project

When my boyfriend and I started looking seriously at our finances, we were amazed by how much money evaporated each month with nothing to show for it. This was due to a few bad habits - random trips to Target, overpriced beverages and, most damning, a lot of meals at restaurants. Eating out is something we both enjoy, but we decided that we should limit (not eliminate!) the frequency and cook the majority of our meals at home. Since October of 2006, we have honed our system and found a reasonable budget for our little household. We are feeding two people for $60 per week and don't feel deprived. And yes, that's breakfast, lunch and dinner.

This section of the website chronicles our weekly shopping lists and the recipes born out of them. The focus is on fresh foods, but we do include some convenience items (everyone needs a break) and guilty pleasures. If you decide to cook at home for health or wealth reasons, it's important to find the right balance for you.

Good luck in your journey, wherever it takes you.
