Bruce Berkowitz (Fairholme Fund)
Nice little write-up for Berkowitz in Barron's the other week. Gotta love that picture -- who wouldn't trust that guy with your life savings!?For a couple of nights, I contemplated whether I should stop trying to invest on my own and just allocate our money in a few ETFs and a managed fund or two. If I did that, one of the only mutual funds I would consider would be the Fairholme Fund, managed by Bruce Berkowitz. Yes, he's been hot the last 5 years or so but performance chasing is not an optimal wealth-building strategy. That's not why I would pick his fund. Reading his interviews and letter to shareholders, I get the sense that he is very much in the mold of Warren Buffet (Berkshire Hathaway is the largest holding in the Fairholme Fund). A strong emphasis on management and value. That's my style. In that spirit, two of our stocks are also held by Fairholme. I can only hope that great minds invest alike.
