Martin Whitman (Third Ave)
Martin Whitman is a somewhat unconventional value investor and founder of Third Avenue Management. Whitman uses what he calls a "financial integrity" approach, focusing on companies with "a lack of encumbrances" on their balance sheet, good management groups, good disclosure and of course, a discount to NAV. He also seems to have an affinity for financial companies. As with FPA, Third Avenue Management have several portfolio managers, including the well-regarded Curtis Jensen, so it's hard to discern Whitman's picks from others.- Quick Notes
